PORTALS: Emmanuel Moses

1 - 31 October 2020
Overview

Every work of art, we could say, works like a portal. Every work is the threshold that marks the entrance to an artistic proposal and a particular gaze. From this perspective, the work is at the same time a door to its own world and an invitation to enter it.

Emmanuel Moses materializes this idea in a series of pieces in which the portal is the main motif and the guide that leads the viewer’s gaze through the work, towards its center and beyond. Leaving behind perspective as a creative resource for the illusion of real space in the plane, it is the repetition of lines and shapes what produces here an autonomous space within the work.

The repetition of the forms, as well as their precise and conscientious handling, have been the main materials in the work that Emmanuel Moses has been developing in recent years. To this, his has added a deep and methodical study of color theory to select and apply the pigments in each piece based on mathematical considerations and calibrations that allow managing their balance and contrast. From that rigor the work arises, and the effect of an artistic event is achieved from reflection and craft.

For this exhibition we have selected some of the most recent works in this series, which the artist has already taken to different materials, techniques and formats, and with which he has even explored the monumental application in public and architectural spaces. We invite you, therefore, to visit the exhibition with us and to travel through these portals of form and color.
