Omar Ibáñez State of Mexico, b. 1991.

Biography

Omar Ibáñez studied Visual Arts at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). His work is rooted in painting and is the result of research on the formal relations of the art object, in terms of Geometry and its connections with space. In the practice he has developed, the artist eliminates the limits between the canvas support andthe painting.

The transformation of painting into an object, or the transition from the two-dimensional to the three-dimensional, is the first step to think about how a work interacts with the environment. Geometric language becomes a privileged tool to understand the links that arise. The results are assemblages through which Ibáñez proposes the visual exploration of mathematical conceptions that analyze how forms develop in space. His most recent work goes beyond classical Geometry and is inserted in the investigation of modern visions about the relations between forms, transformations, transitions and the fluidity of work in space. Abstraction becomes an indication of natural patterns and turns into starting points to understand the idea for the objective world.

He currently lives and works in Mexico City.
