Biography

He studied Pure Art at the Cristóbal Rojas School of Plastic and Applied Arts between 1962 and 1966. Shortly after, he arrived in Europe and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan and in the Faculty of Architecture of the Polytechnic of Milano.


Between 1967 and 1971 Lucena lived in Paris where he studied Aesthetics and Art History with the renowned professor Frank Popper. During this period, he worked as an assistant to the artist Carlos Cruz-Diez in his studio in Paris.


In 1973 he held his first solo exhibition at the Christian Stein gallery in Turin and in 1975 he participated in the prestigious “Grands et Jeunes d’ Aujourd’hui” salon in Paris. In 1999 Lucena represented Venezuela at the 48th Venice Biennale.
