Antonio Asis Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1932-2019.

Biography

He began studying art at the National School of Fine Arts and later attended the Prilidiano Pueyrredón School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires. He moved to Paris in 1956, where he resided ever since and began experimenting with color and light. In 1971, in Paris, he co-founded Position with other Argentine artists who explored light and movement.

His geometric abstraction works are closely aligned with the Op art movement. Composed of interactive shapes and intersections of planes, Asis’s works disturb the perception of shapes, colors and space. His production included paintings, lithographs, prints, drawings, and mixed media pieces.

Antonio Asis died in Paris in April 2019.
