Luis Tomasello Argentino, 1915-2014.

Biography

In 1932 Tomasello entered the “Prilidiano Peyredon” National School of Fine Arts. Between 1940 and 1944, he continued his studies at the “Ernesto de la Carcova” School of Painting in Buenos Aires and worked in figurative art until 1950. In 1945 he made his first trip to Europe and began to carry out works on geometric abstraction. In 1951, he traveled to Sicily to see the land from which his father emigrated. He discovered Mondrian's work and lived for six months in Paris. He was dazzled by the medieval stained-glass windows of the Cathedral of Chartes and for the first time manifests his intuition for color and light, which will be determining themes in his later works. In 1954 he was part of the New Art Association, in Buenos Aires, together with Aldo Pellegrini, Carmelo Arden Quin (1913-2010), Martin Blaszko (1920-2011), Ana Sacerdote (1925-), Gregorio Vardánega, Virgilio Villalba and others. In 1957, after settling permanently in Paris, Tomasello carried out his first kinetic experiences on the plane, working with Marino di Teana. The following year he made his first reliefs where in a pioneering way he integrated the effects of color reflection. In 1958 he joined the Galerie Denise René group and subsequently devoted himself entirely to developing works focused on investigating the light phenomena. He passed away in 2014.
